Hey Mamas out there! How hard is it to get back into shape after you have a new little one? Not easy, right? Maybe you'd love to go to the gym, but then there is the issue of child care. Do you really want to wake up at 5am to go before the baby gets up and daddy goes off to work? Do you really want to put said precious child in the nursery at the gym where who knows how often (if at all) the nursery workers are washing their hands? And with flu season coming up, you might be a little more cautious.
Yes, you could run, and that is great. But let's be honest, it can get a little boring sometimes not to mention the self-modivation it innvolves to keep going. And sometimes you just want a little company and adult conversation.
Stroller Strides is the perfect Mommy Fitness Program. From the website:
Stroller Strides® is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes power walking and intervals of strength and body toning exercises using exercise tubing, the stroller and the environment. Taught by certified and specially trained fitness instructors, it is a great workout for any level of exerciser. Stroller Strides instructors weave songs and activities into the routine designed to entertain and engage baby, while moms are led through a series of exercises specific to her role as mom.
My friend Julia started doing Stroller Strides when her baby was 6 weeks old. It has really helped modivate her to exercise and get out of the house but has also allowed her a social outlet to meet and hang out with other moms.
Julia invited me to go with her to check it out and it really was great!! Not only was it a good workout, but the instructor also organizes mommy play-dates and outings to do with the kids! And the work-out was such that it could be tailored and modified to cater to any fitness level- moderate/high intensity or for the beginner who may be a bit intimated by group exercise.
There are francises all over the country so you should check and see if there is one in your area! I visited the one in the Kennesaw/Woodstock area. Unfortunatly, the timing of these particular classes will not work out for me and the Woodstock location is too far for me to drive on a consistant basis. I'm hoping someone will start one in Marietta!
If you are in the Kennesaw/Woodstock area email Amanda, amandarahn@strollerstrides.net, for more information. She is great and I'm sure would be more than happy for you to check out some classes! I even think she is running a special right now. It really is a fun group of women!
what a fun thing to do! and a good way to get back in shape!
